It looks like there has been some significant testing done on the recently made available Chromium OS, which for those who may not be as familiar, that is the open-sourced version of Chrome OS — and it is officially available as of now.
Anyway, according to the Chromium developer site, there are quite a bit of netbooks, and some notebooks that are capable of fully supporting Chromium OS. And by fully support, I mean there is support for Wi-Fi, the trackpad and even suspend and resume. I would encourage anyone interested to check out the full list, but here are a few of the models that stand out as offering full support.
- Toshiba mini NB200/NB205
- Asus Eee PC 1008HA
- Asus Eee PC 900
- Asus Eee PC 700
- Sony VAIO W Series
- Toshiba Satellite A205-S5000
A few others, such as the Acer AOP531h, Acer AOD250, Acer Aspire One and the Gateway LT20 may or may not work depending on which Wi-Fi module was installed. If the unit has an Atheros Wi-Fi module then you are good. Otherwise, some of these units shipped with the Broadcom Wi-Fi module which is not yet compatible. The nice part here is that the Wi-Fi module is listed on the compliance sticker which should be on the back/bottom of the computer.
